Feel free to share more about your background (professional/personal), where you are originally from or based in, a memorable moment in your career/life, or any "one thing we can’t guess from your LinkedIn profile" type of story:
I'm originally from Italy but currently based in Amsterdam. I've always been very curious about software and IT, and that has lead me to pursue it in university in Bologna, where I got my bachelor in Computer Science. After that, I dabbled a bit into the world of microcontrollers in an Italian company, before moving to Amsterdam to pursue an academic career in Computer Science research. Alas, that didn't turn out to be the right path for me, but I was able to adjust the route and come back to the IT world and find a job in Amsterdam as a DevOps engineer. That's where my DevOps journey starts and where I got more involved into the cloud-native world, infrastructure as code, containers, microservices, SRE, and all the other buzzwords of the decade I now work for HelloPrint in Rotterdam, and looking back, I think that the thread that connects my story together is a combination of curiosity, eagerness to learn, wanting to dig deep into the skeleton of things (from the skeleton of a web application, to the skeleton of an operating system, even to the skeleton of maths), and tinkering around with different technologies and concepts, especially if free, easily accessible, and open for learning, improvement, and hacking (hence my big passion for Open Source Software).
How many years of working with PagerDuty products (please mention which ones) do you have?:
2 years with Rundeck OSS
Tell us about your experience using a PagerDuty product, native integrations, custom APIs, extensions or add-ons to services/systems challenges you were trying to fix/solve/improve and what you achieved after the implementation (feel free to include performance metrics, if available or any fun/odd/remarkable stories).:
I've had a mostly positive experience using Rundeck to automate operational tasks and shift them away from my desk towards more appropriate people (e.g. from other departments), by giving them a platform where they can provide their input, and then scripts and code in the background take care of carrying out the task on one or more of our servers. All through a web interface, which is of course intuitive for the user to use, but also handy to get an overview of what tasks are running, which server are available to run them, the log of the scripts running, and so on. On top of all this, a very granular Access Control and user management system also gives me assurance that only the right people can run certain tasks.
What type of resources you like/use the most when in need of support? Knowledge Base, Ops Guides, LinkedIn/Twitch streams, 1o1 with Devops Advocate/Account Manager/Solutions Consultant, Community Forums, PagerDuty University training/certifications or other. Tell us why!:
I usually try to get my answers from the Knowledge Base/documentation, and when that doesn't work, I usually Google a bit, and in the worst cases I may even go deep into the code of Rundeck itself to see what's going on. Of course, it's ideal when method 1 and 2 work, because method 3 can be very time consuming and hard to navigate, but so far this approached has served me well. I was also not aware of the other options to get support, maybe they might help improve my troubleshooting.
Do you have a favorite PagerDuty product and/or API, integration? Tell us why!:
Rundeck, for all the reasons I mentioned above
Worked on a custom integration, extension, or add-on using PagerDuty? Has a success use case story? Wrote an article that can help the dev community?
