Hi @ld2024, thanks for reaching out and sorry you’re running into this right before your on-call shift.
PagerDuty recently updated its mobile app security, and it will now refuse to run on devices it detects as rooted, jailbroken, or otherwise tampered with, even if you haven’t made any changes yourself.
Sometimes, certain Android updates, developer settings, or security apps can trigger this detection.
Here’s what you can try:
- Double-check that your Pixel 7a isn’t rooted, running a custom ROM, or has developer options like “OEM unlocking” enabled.
- Make sure both your PagerDuty app and Android OS are fully updated.
- Try clearing the app’s cache and data (Settings > Apps > PagerDuty > Storage & Cache).
- Uninstall and reinstall the PagerDuty app from the Play Store.
If your device is completely stock and you’re still seeing this message, it could be a compatibility issue with the latest Android update. In that case, I’d recommend reaching out to PagerDuty Support with your device details so they can dig in further.
Let us know how it goes, and enjoy your day!
My phone is completely stock but I did have “developer options” enabled but I’ve now turned those off.
I then cleared the cache and data and then uninstalled the app
I then rebooted the phone and reinstalled pagerduty.
Alas its still doing it, I will reach out to PD support
PD should have done a soft update on this security stuff, it would have been nice to get a warning first.
Thanks for your reply
