I’m not finding an answer in the knowledge base, so posting here:

On a Service, if I populate a link to a Confluence page runbook in the “Documentation Link” field, how exactly does that show up for responders on an Incident? I can’t see a placeholder or field on the Incident layout. The Knowledge Base states that “Once configured, responders can view the documentation link in the same section on a service's details page under Settings  Remediate.”

Does this mean that the link won’t show on an incident for that service?

Hi @Jon Hanseling

I had to dig into this on my account, and you are right, right now the incident page does not surface the runbook information for the service the incident is currently assigned to.

Since the runbooks are service-specific, they are only surfaced on the service page. There’s a limited amount of service information duplicated into the incident pages, so getting to the runbooks is an extra click.

If folks are finding it hard to locate the runbooks in the service config, you can also put them in the custom fields on the services, so they’ll be in the main box of the Custom Fields tab. That might make things easier to locate. More on custom fields on services in the docs.

Some folks are also recording runbooks in custom fields on incidents, but those are meant to be updated during the incident, so maybe not as helpful for what you’re looking for.
