I created a alert policy in GCP to capture service heath which sends an incident to PagerDuty.  Is there a way to have this incident sent to all services within PagerDuty?  I tried using incident workflow and actions for responders and able to select one by one all escalation policy but this is not ideal.

🤔

I don’t think so. I don’t remember anyone asking for that in the last few years.

What’s your goal, @Mr. Moise? do you want to mobilize all of your teams, or do these alerts actually impact all of your services?

@mwalls I’m looking to send that particular alert which was generated in GCP for service health to PagerDuty to different services for awareness.

Hmmmm.. ok

I think I’d take a different tack, then, if it’s just for awareness, and create a service dedicated to receiving these alerts and subscribe the required escalation policies to that service.

Alerts are generally considered to have a 1:1 relationship with the service they target, while escalation policies can be attached to many services.

If that ends up generating too many notifications for your teams, in these sort of “general awareness” cases it’s often useful to hook up the service to a channel in a chat service so things are available if folks need info but aren’t alerting humans directly if they aren’t needed.

@mwalls majority of the teams doesn’t utilize a chat service and the alerts generating from GCP are not truly noisy as it’s tuned to related incidents.  The only way I’ve been able to accomplish different teams to receive this alert is adding escalation policy as responders through incident workflow but it’s very messy on PagerDuty as it shows every responder on the right field.

@Mr. Moise

the web ui will show every responder you’ve added to an incident, yes.  Does your account have stakeholders enabled? Incident workflows will allow you to add escalation policies as stakeholders to the incident. those folks will be notified of the incident and changes to the status. they’ll also receive updates published to the incident via PagerDuty.

@mwalls yes stakeholders are enabled but they to accept the incident for them to receive updates
